Alex James is a musician, songwriter, journalist and cheesemaker and best known as the bass player and occasional vocalist of band Blur, one of the most successful and influential bands of the Britpop era, who performed at Hyde Park for the 2012 Summer Olympics closing ceremony. In 2012 he appeared on The Bank Job and has been a participant in BBC One program 10 Things You Need to Know About Losing Weight. In 2014, he appeared as one of the celebrities on Through the Keyhole.
Halfway through his French degree in London, Alex James joined Blur and when the four musicians came together, something magical happened. He has also played with temporary bands, Fat Les, Me Me Me, WigWam and Bad Lieutenant. He writes a weekly column on all things food for the Sun, as well a regular column on farm and family life for the Sunday Telegraph. Bournemouth University presented James with an Honorary Doctorate in November 2010. He also received an Honorary Doctorate of Arts from the University of Gloucestershire in November 2013.
